I think you're using a poor quality reader. I have not tried a USB-3 card reader with the new MacBook Pro, but I can tell you that trying an older USB-A card reader using a USB-C to USB-A adaptor was terribly slow Be sure to get the one labeled USB 3.1 and also USB-C. $15 shipped with CF slot, SD and microSD. $15 shipped on Amazon without cable.įunny, I ordered an extra one a few days ago and it just arrived including a USB-C cable (USB-C to USB-3). I use a model by Transcend that has USB 3.1 for the SDXC card, along with reading CF cards and miniSD cards. But I'm guessing I'll get faster speeds if I use USB-C readers, and I'd like to save my cable for my external drives ( which use previous USB connection ) instead of having to buy two cables. I've been told that the previous USB connection card readers will work with the new laptop if I use a USB to USB-C cable. I'm looking for something with a USB-C connection but it doesn't -have- to be USB-C. I'm just wondering what everyone else here uses and what experience you've had with external card readers.
